Wedding Hair in the Napa Valley

A few months ago an old friend contacted me and told me that her daughter had gotten married and was celebrating her 1-year anniversary near me in the Napa Valley. I had the honor of doing hair for both the bride (Audri) and my friend (Kim).

As a bonus, the wedding was held at the winery that my hubby works for so he got to tag along with me & visit with some of his friends from the winery. Old friends + wedding hair + Napa + hubby = the best work day ever!

I arrived to the on-site cottages in the early afternoon and was met with a fun, excited and bubbly energy. I got right to work on the beautiful bride...

I got to catch up with my beautiful friend (who looks far too young to be a mother-of-the-bride, might I add) while sipping on some yummy champagne (I told you it was the best work day ever!).

Audri was looking for a casual, off-center style swept up with a few soft strands around her face. The style was perfectly suited for her dress. I completed her hairstyle with a vintage-looking sparkly hair piece you can see below.

The bride looked gorgeous in her vintage inspired dress that she scored off-the-rack at Neiman Marcus in Walnut Creek. And the setting was absolutely breathtaking! Check out the beautiful gardens of the on-site insectary below.

My husband and I were so grateful to be a part of their special day. We had a fabulous time sipping on some of our favorite varietals and even snagged a glass of the Black Stallion Rosé (which was just released that day) courtesy of the owner of the winery.

I have to share one last picture of the beautiful bride and her sweet hubby with you!

5 Hair Products You Need Now

My name is Kristle and I am a hair product junkie. Yes, I admit it. Right before I started this blog post, I looked under my bathroom sink and counted over 25 hair products including at least four different types of shine serums, three hairsprays and a myriad of others. Lucky for you, I am pairing down my list to the 5 (ok actually 6) hair products you need now.

1. Deep Conditioner

I think all my clients need a deep conditioner. A deep conditioner help maintain the integrity of hair, hydrate parched strands, add shine and keep split ends at bay. I mentioned in a previous post that one of my fave deep conditioners is Kerastase Masque Elixir Ultime. It is so indulgent but worth every penny.

2. Leave-In Conditioner

Pureology was one of my favorite brands when I worked at my old salon in Orange County and I absolutely love the Pureology Colour Fanatic Hair Treatment Spray. It has soo many benefits but some of the ones I like for my clients are the fact that this product detangles, moisturizes, repairs and reduces frizz. As a bonus, you can use this on your strands as a refresher in-between washes.

3. Styling Cream

So this is a tricky one because everyone has different hair types, textures and styles so the type of styling cream you use will be unique to your own needs. You can choose yours based on what you need but my go-to for versatility is the Bumble & Bumble styling cream that has buildable hold (meaning that the more you layer on, the better it holds).

4. Hairspray

A good hairspray is a girls best friend. I really can do everything I want with a hairspray. One you will always find on my station at the salon is Kenra Volume Spray 25. It is absolute perfection in a bottle! Find it here by shopping with me at Loxa Beauty.

5. Shine Serum

I have tried just about every type of shine serum out there and one I absolutely adore is the Kerastase Elixir Ultime. It is hands-down the best out there. You can use it pre or post blow-dry or even touch up your ends throughout the day with it. It really is the best!

6. Dry Shampoo

Ok, I lied when I said there was just 5 but number 6 is really just for my clients and readers who like to skip a shampoo or two throughout the week. I rely on a dry shampoo every week since I only suds up about twice weekly. A dry shampoo soaks up any excess oil or product and refreshes your hair for styling. One I have been using lately is the Redken Pillow Proof Dry Shampoo. It leaves my hair feeling refreshed and not weighed down like some dry shampoos tend to do.

Summer Nails

I love a good gel manicure just as much as the next girl. I love that even though my hands are in water the majority of the time at work, gel will last through at least two weeks of wear. Anyhow, even though I love gel manis so much, I am not a fan of exposing my little fingers to a UV lamp every other week so I am always on the lookout for a good long-wearing traditional polish. I have tried just about all of the long-wear polishes out there and since I do work with my hands, I feel like I am a good judge of longevity.

Caption Nail Polish

The one brand that I have really really been loving, especially of lately is Caption Polish. It stayed on for 4 days before I saw any sign of wear and tear. I ended up removing it 6-7 days in, which I have to say is pretty darn impressive!

So if you are looking for a fabulous long-wearing polish that gives you gel-esque wear sans the UV lamp, give Caption a try.

Summer Break & My Top 5 Summer Hair Tips

A day at the beach is definitely on my family's summer checklist

This marks the first week of our summer break around here. My family and I made a summer checklist of all the fun things we want to do over the summer. I think every single item on the list involves being in the sun and outdoors. So, in addition to lathering my kiddos (and myself) up with sunscreen for our skin, I have a few other things that we will be doing to stay protected throughout summer.

The salon has been slow this week with a good portion of my clients out on vacations already and most of them will soon begin to see the effects of summer on their hair. Unfortunately, dry, brittle, chlorine-soaked strands are will start to wreak havoc on all the heads of hair that I worked so hard to whip into shape during the rest of the year. So to keep my clients (and your) hair in tip-top shape throughout the summer season, here are my top 5 summer hair tips:

1. Ban at least one blowout every week from your regimen. Give your hair a break from blow drying and thermal styling every so often and wear your hair in a cute side braid or even au natural. This will help keep your hair healthier and shinier this summer.

2. Weekly hair masks or treatments are a must! Whether you get one done in-salon or at-home, it doesn't matter much to me, just as long as you get one done. This high-caliber conditioning session is perfect for re-hydrating dry strands. One of my favorite at-home treatments is the Kerastase Masque Elixir Ultime. My clients can pick it up at the salon to use at home.

3. Keep your 6 week appointments on the books. Regular haircuts are necessary to keep hair strong and free of split ends. So don't slump when it comes to your summer hair appointments.

4. Shower before you swim. I'm not talking about a full-on shower but let your hair soak up some fresh, non-chlorinated water before your pony hits the pool. This will cut down on how much icky pool water your hair soaks up while swimming.

5. Sunscreen isn't just for your skin. The sun can cause premature fading or oxidation of your hair color, dryness and more. Try Pureology Anti-Fade Complex daily to prevent sun damage on your strands.
