Escaping Our Comfort Zones

I love my job. Most days I don't consider it work because I get to catch up with clients (most of which I consider friends), make people look beautiful and hang out with a great group of girls in the salon. And as fabulous as my work is, sometimes it can be a bit....hmmm....repetitive. Now don't get me wrong, I certainly don't mind the monotony of it. I actually look forward to all my color touch ups, foiled-in highlights and blow outs, I really really do. But every once in awhile it is also fun to shake things up a bit. Get my creative juices flowing and do something to escape my comfort zone.

This week was my opportunity to do just that. In walked a new client. She was a super cute, young professional. Here is what her hair looked like...

Cute, right? She had a basic one length cut with a side swept bang. She asked for something a bit different and wanted to add in some color. I thought...hmmm, okay! I suggested something totally in my comfort zone - an a-line bob with some peek-a-boo color. She said she wanted something even more different than that. So then I suggested something slightly out of my comfort zone - an asymmetrical bob with some color. She wasn't a fan of the idea. So I asked her to pull out some inspiration from Pinterest and she showed me pictures like this...

Whoa whoa whoa! This was totally out of my comfort zone. But I got excited about doing something new. So first we started by cutting her hair. I reworked it and reworked it until we were both happy with the cut. Then, I went in and lightened her hair on heavily weaved strands using Redken Flash Light (my favorite lightener). Finally, I rinsed and dried her and applied Pravana Vivid Red for about 20 minutes before rinsing.

Here is the finished product:

I styled her using Unite Creamy Paste and held it all in place with Kenra Volume 25. She loved the look and I loved the challenge! Sometimes it's good to escape our comfort zones every once in awhile!

Here is one more side-by-side before and after:
